2014 RecapThe USC Trojans are still fighting the aftereffects of NCAA sanctions but the way back is looking good. Losses to Arizona and Utah hurt, but USC still managed to post a 9-4 record in 2014, ending things with a win over Notre Dame and a win over Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl. Read More...

2015 Preview – USC once again has a big prospect at quarterback in Cody Kessler. The Senior returns to the field for the Trojans after a Junior year that saw him throw for 3,826 yards and 39 touchdowns. Possibly the best part of his performance was his accuracy with the ball, throwing only five interceptions all season. Kessler will more than likely be asked to do even more in 2015 and go out with a bang. The Trojans have the receivers to be dangerous as JuJu Smith is back after a very promising freshman season, along with Steven Mitchell. USC could also benefit from the addition of Isaac Whitney in the Red Zone offense. If there’s a cause for concern it could be finding a running back. The Trojans have no proven starters returning here but either Justin Davis or Tre Madden could do well behind an offensive line that’s among the best in the PAC-12. Success here is going to depend heavily on Kessler, which is not a bad thing since he’s a fifth year Senior.

Defensively, the USC Trojans suffered from some late game collapses last season, and the Trojans will have to find a way to shut down opposing offenses and close the deal. Defensive Coordinator Justin Wilcox must get as much as he can out of Su’a Craven, who showed he could both cover out of the backfield and provide a pass rush when needed. The secondary is adequate but not spectacular, except for cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, who should be assigned to the opponent’s top receiver as he was in 2014. To be successful, the USC defense will have to be more aggressive. They may give up some big plays but they will create some also.

2015 Snapshot – The 2015 USC Trojans will take another step towards becoming a title contender in 2015 but they still have a ways to go. Gaining early momentum is essential but nothings tops the task of beating both UCLA and especially Oregon. Do that and we can say USC is back.
